A bit about this site

This url has hosted many different versions of this site over many years.

It's been a Moveable Type blog, a WordPress blog, a Jekyll site... And now it's just a bunch of html, css and javascript files on a personal server.

I've gradually whittled it down to the bare minimum needed to keep it alive and to give me the ability to update it regularly without it feeling like a chore.

I'm writing this in February of 2025, when I've recently revived the site after a long period of dormancy.

The main reason is that I really want nothing more to do with Instagram or any other algorithm-led, infinitely-scrolling, Trump-supporting platform. I just want to keep a record of the pictures I take, the films I see, the music I listen to, the books I read and the thoughts I have; in a place that I own and I control.

Just doing that feels like a rather radical act in 2025.

Right now I update the site monthly using this 'scrapbook' format, which means I don't have to chain a bunch of random things together in one long post. I can just gradually add things and then publish a new month every few weeks. Old months then get archived and made browsable. There's no database. It's not searchable. And I'm not entirely sure how it will work with RSS yet, but I'm about to look into that!
